Optional Benefits

Although the State Health Plan does not administer the following health-related programs, we support each of them in different ways. For specific information on any of these programs, click the respective link.

Long-Term Care

Long term care insurance will pay for full-time medical or support services if you should suffer a debilitating medical condition. Examples of such conditions include strokes, Alzheimer's Disease, or prolonged serious illnesses. As with life insurance policies, the earlier you enroll in long term care insurance, the lower the monthly premiums may be.

The State Health Plan has contracted with Prudential Financial to provide state employees' long term care benefits under a group plan. You can learn details about the benefits at Prudential's website.

When you access Prudential's website, you will need to enter certain information:

  • The first page asks for a Group Name. In the text box, type "stateplan" (without the quotation marks) and click on "Continue."
  • The next page asks for a Password. In the text box, type "stateplanltc" (without the quotation marks). In the drop-down box, select "North Carolina" and click on "Login."

Visit Prudential's Group Long Term Care Insurance website.

NC Flex

The Office of State Personnel (OSP) administers the NCFlex Program for state employees. This website is a convenient way to access your NCFlex benefits information. Teachers may access their flex benefits through their school's benefits administrator.
